Who We Are & What We Do
The Muslim Students’ Association at the University of Maryland is dedicated to fostering a strong, welcoming, and faith-centered community for Muslim students on campus. We strive to create a space where students feel supported spiritually, socially, and academically while building lifelong connections and growing in their deen.
Throughout the year, the MSA organizes a range of programs designed to serve the diverse needs of the community. From weekly halaqahs and Quran classes to large-scale events and social gatherings, our goal is to make Islamic education and community accessible to every student.
-
The MSA provides consistent opportunities for students to grow in their faith and knowledge. We host weekly halaqahs led by Imam Tarif, along with additional halaqahs throughout the semester featuring guest speakers from across the country. Students can also join Quran classes focused on improving recitation and strengthening their connection to the Quran.
We also organize special programs such as Quran Night, where students come together with other MSAs across the DMV for an evening dedicated to Quran recitation, reflection, and community.
-
During Ramadan, the MSA serves as a central hub for Muslim life on campus. We host Taraweeh prayers every single night, creating a consistent and accessible space for worship.
We provide free iftar on most days of the month, along with larger community-wide events such as InterOrg, InterMSA, and Interfaith iftars. Qiyam nights are also organized throughout Ramadan, offering students the opportunity for deeper spiritual reflection and ibadah in a strong community setting.
-
Building a strong and welcoming community is at the core of the MSA. We organize a variety of social events throughout the year to help students connect and feel at home on campus.
These include large-scale events like the InterMSA Soccer Tournament, as well as trips and socials such as ski trips, bonfire nights, and the MSA Bazaar. These events create spaces for students to relax, build friendships, and strengthen their sense of belonging.
-
Service is a key part of our mission. The MSA actively works to give back through initiatives like Charity Week, campus cleanups, and volunteering efforts.
We also collaborate closely with local masajids such as Dar-us-Salaam (DUS), Prince George’s Muslim Association (PGMA), and Diyanet Center of America (DCA) to strengthen ties between students and the broader Muslim community.
-
The MSA offers multiple committees that allow students to get involved in meaningful ways and take on leadership roles. These include Dawah, Events, Service, Public Relations, Fundraising, and more.
Each committee plays a key role in shaping the MSA’s impact on campus while giving students the opportunity to develop skills, build connections, and actively contribute to the community.
A Community for Everyone
Above all, the MSA is committed to fostering a safe, welcoming, and supportive space for Muslim students on campus. Whether you are attending your first event, looking to grow spiritually, or hoping to take on a leadership role, there is a place for you in the MSA.
